Frequently Asked Questions

MEDICARE QUESTIONS

Q. How do I obtain Medicare coverage for medical equipment I need in the home?

A. The first step is for your physician to prescribe the item. Once you have the prescription come by and we can talk about coverage. Depending on the item and you insurance we may need to obtain additional paperwork required by Medicare from your physician.

Q. Who initiates the necessary paperwork?

A. Your physician writes a prescription and we obtain the additional paperwork required by your insurance company.

Q. What information would Bridge Street Pharmacy need to process a claim?

A. Full legal name of patient, address (not a PO Box), & phone number - Prescription from your physician that includes a diagnosis - Copy of your insurance cards - Patient's date of birth - Patients height & weight

Q. What is covered by Medicare?

Medicare may help pay for 80% of DME, including:

Q. What is a capped rental item?

Medicare considers hospital beds, manual wheelchairs, transport chairs, air mattresses, & power wheelchairs as capped rental items. This means that Medicare pays for 13 months rental and when all co-pays have been made the equipment will become the patients. If during the 13 month period the patient goes into the hospital, a skilled nursing facility, or passes away the equipment is to be returned to Bridge Street Pharmacy.

Q.What is NOT covered by Medicare?

Equipment that is not covered by Medicare includes: Adaptive daily living aids such as reachers, sock-aids, utensils, bathroom equipment, incontinence supplies, & compression socks. For a more detailed information regarding coverage call 1-800-Medicare.
